Countless industries and projects require excavators, but buying them brand new can mean borrowing considerable sums, which is where buying used & rebuilt excavators can save your organization massive amounts of money both in purchase cost as well as potential interest on borrowed funds for financing. Despite used & rebuilt excavators being such a viable and reliable option, particularly when obtained through Evans Equipment Group, many people are still unaware of the benefits of a rebuild or are on the fence regarding getting one.
We’re going to look into what exactly constitutes used & rebuilt excavators, as well as what goes into actually rebuilding them. We’ll also cover why getting a rebuild is better than getting a new excavator in nearly every situation imaginable. Here’s more about our used & rebuilt excavator division.
Used excavators are those that have simply been owned or operated previously, either by a private party or by a company operating commercially. Used excavators are similar to other used machinery and vehicles, in that you don’t know exactly what you’re buying. Even though they are discounted significantly from retail, they could be in relatively bad shape overall.
A rebuilt excavator, on the other hand, is one that was used, but instead of being sold on the private market, it was sold to a commercial entity like us, which specializes in excavator rebuilds. Rebuilding is a complex process that is much more than giving the engine a quick tune-up and an oil change. The machine is broken down to its most basic components and then completely inspected before being reassembled.
While every place may have its own unique process, the following is ours. We believe that our rebuild process is one of the many reasons that we have been in business for so long.
The initial inspection will include our technicians looking at how many hours have been put into the equipment, and what that is going to entail from our inspection and rebuild process. The rebuild needs of an excavator that only had 15,000 miles on it are going to be different from a 90,000-hour workhorse.
We’ll break down the excavator into its primary parts and systems, resulting in complete disassembly and a bare frame. The parts and hardware are then sandblasted clean for inspection, and the frame is examined. The frame is closely inspected for cracks or other damages and is repaired if needed.
During the inspection, every part, component, system, and bolt is inspected. The entire articulation system is inspected for damage or misalignments. Every piece of the hydraulic system is individually inspected, from the smallest fitting to the valves and cylinders. The engine is either rebuilt or replaced, and the transmission is rebuilt. Anything that could have questionable usability guidelines is automatically replaced with a new component.
Finally, all components are replaced in the excavator to the factory specifications. This leaves an excavator that is nearly indistinguishable from a new one but at a fraction of the cost.
The biggest benefit of buying rebuilt excavators instead of new ones is that in both cases you’re getting a new excavator, but in one of the two cases, you are paying significantly more for that excavator than in the other case.
If you have been shopping around for excavators, keep in mind that Evans provides the best rebuilds on the market, and they only cost a fraction of a new one. Contact Evans Equipment to discuss used & rebuilt excavators for your project.
